Three people are killed in a car crash on Highway 18-151, east of Mount Horeb. They are later identified as Janet Indermuehle, 48, her son Daniel Hall, 15, and Tiffany Kastner, 14, all of Potosi. Police say Indermuehle was speeding and taking on her cell phone when she crashed.

George Macapugay, 45, pleads guilty to underreporting income from his Fitchburg business, Midwest Heating and Air. Macapugay, originally from the Philippines, now faces deportation.

The Madison Streets Division announces it no longer has 95-gallon recycling carts or 35-gallon trash containers available. The city says it ran out of money to buy the containers after it spent more than expected on snowplowing this winter.
Police in Clinton, Mass., arrest 29-year-old Anderson Dasilva on rape charges. Dasilva had been accused of raping a 23-year-old Madison woman in March 2007, after she left a downtown bar. Dane County prosecutors had failed to act on a police request to get a warrant for Dasilva for more than a year, before finally filing charges with the court on Tuesday. District Attorney Brian Blanchard said there was no excuse for the delay.

The Mad-City Ski Team takes first place in a national water-ski competition for the third consecutive year. Madison's team, which normally practices on Lake Monona, had to find a new site after this summer's flooding forced no-wake orders on the city's lakes.

County officials discover numerous mistakes on ballots for the Sept. 9 primary, including the wrong Assembly district numbers and leaving off the name of a candidate for the 47th Assembly District. The county, which says the mistakes were made by the printer, must now reprint 75,500 ballots.
Brian Hutchinson, 34, of Portland, Ore., pleads guilty to being part of a marijuana distribution ring in Madison. Hutchinson worked with Reed Rogala, another distributor who officials suspect may be connected to the 2004 disappearance and presumed murder of Amos Mortier.
Kris Burke, the former Madison Metro driver who drove a bus with a passenger hanging from the side-view mirror, chooses to spend 10 days in jail. Dane County Circuit Judge Patrick Fiedler had told Burke he could either go to jail or take one year of probation.
Eric Hainstock, who shot his high school principal to death in 2006, asks for a new trial. Hainstock's attorney argues that the boy, now 17, wasn't competent to waive his rights when he made incriminating statements to investigators after the murder, and that his attorneys should have done more to challenge this.

Fire destroys an office building on the 6300 block of Odana Road, causing more than $2 million in damage. The building housed Lutheran Social Services and 4-C Community Coordinated Child Care. The cause is being investigated.
