Police use a Taser to subdue Jacquelyn L. Lightfoot, 37, of Madison, after she allegedly attacks a Memorial High School educational resource officer. The officer had detained Lightfoot's 17-year-old son, who wasn't a student at the school, for a tobacco violation and resisting a search. Lightfoot is arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.

The UW Roman Catholic Foundation files a federal lawsuit against the UW System Board of Regents and four UW-Madison officials alleging religious discrimination. The foundation says the UW has refused to grant it student organization status or let it receive student fees because of its religious requirements for membership.
The Madison Police and Fire Commission fires Officer Russell Henderson, who was placed on paid leave in 2005 after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, battery and making phone threats.
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, at a press conference, refuses to concede to Republican J.B. Van Hollen in the attorney general's race. Falk, who came up about 9,000 votes short out of more than 2.1 million cast, says she will wait until the results are official, then decide whether to ask for a recount.
About 150 supporters, mostly nurses, rally in front of the Dane County courthouse during the initial appearance of Julie Thao. The nurses say Thao should not be facing criminal charges in the death of a 16-year-old patient to whom she accidentally gave the wrong medicine.

Clear Channel Madison confirms Isthmus' report that it plans to replace its Air America affiliate, 92.1 The Mic, with an all-sports channel from Fox, by Jan. 1. Advocates of The Mic question the move, given the station's improved ratings and Democratic election victories that suggest a market for 'progressive talk.'
An early winter storm causes more than 50 accidents in Dane County, including one in which a 19-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after the car she was riding in crossed the median on I-94.

Former UW Badgers running back Booker Stanley, 23, is sentenced to one year in the Dane County jail and seven years' probation for sexually assaulting and choking his ex-girlfriend last December.
Despite wearing handcuffs and a waist restraint, Joseph J. Mercer, 31, escapes from a police car in the Shorewood Hills area while Sauk County Deputies are escorting him to the UW Hospital psychiatric ward. Police say Mercer, who is not considered violent, may be hiding in nearby wooded areas.
