Wisconsin resident Scott Olsen, a 24-year-old Marine who served two tours in Iraq, is seriously injured in an Occupy Wall Street protest in Oakland, Calif. Protesters say Olsen was hit by a projectile fired by police.

Dane County Circuit Judge Sarah O'Brien sentences Tamela Lynch, 52, to 11 years in prison for killing a 43-year-old pedestrian, Becky Field, on Feb. 28 in a drunk driving accident.

The Wisconsin Claims Board releases its decision that Rommain Steven Isham, a 53-year-old Minnesota man who spent 10 years in prison for a sexual assault he didn't commit, should get $25,000 in compensation. Isham has asked for $3.65 million - $1,000 for every day in prison.
Hammes Co., which wants to redevelop the Edgewater Hotel, wins an appeal against the project before the state's 4th District Court of Appeals. A three-judge panel rules that the courts "are not empowered to question the wisdom of decisions like the one made by the council here."

Demetrius Matticx, 18, is jailed on $1 million bail, tentatively charged with killing Jonathan TeAndre Wilson with a shotgun Oct. 20. Investigators say the killing was part of a gang rivalry. According to an affidavit, Matticx allegedly told a woman after the incident, "Yeah, I killed him." Six others are also later charged in Wilson's death.

Freakfest, the annual Halloween party on State Street, gets one of its lowest turnouts ever, with only 26,000 tickets sold. But the event's promoter, Frank Productions, says it was still a success.

Sen. Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center) says he's opposing legislation that would institute new legislative boundaries this month instead of next summer. The bill favors Republican incumbents and would give them a leg up in recall elections next year. "I'm not interested in further adding confusion by changing the rules," Schultz says. Another bill that would require all signatures on recall petitions to be notarized stalls in committee.
Brandon S. Johnson, 23, who was shot by Middleton police on Oct. 4, is charged with stalking and 16 other offenses. Johnson was shot after answering the door of his estranged wife's apartment carrying a shotgun. Court Commissioner Todd Meurer ordered Johnson detained in UW Hospital's secure area.

Bradley Erickson, a 32-year-old Iraq War veteran, is sentenced to 13 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision for a drunk-driving accident that killed three people in October 2010. Erickson was driving on Interstate 39/90/94 in Burke when he crashed into a disabled car, killing 19-year-old Marcus Johnson of Milwaukee, 23-year-old Wilfredo Ugarte of Puerto Rico and 20-year-old Elysia Rapp of Racine.
