Dane County authorities charge Jeffrey Hilgers, 42, a former Dane County sheriff's deputy, with second-degree sexual assault for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an inmate in a jail diversion program. Hilgers was also charged with possessing child pornography. He resigned from the department in August 2013.

The Associated Press reports that Wisconsin's consumer spending is lagging behind that of other states and is not keeping up with the growth of personal income.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announces it will not temporarily house immigrant children in Wisconsin because of a lack of funding. Mayor Paul Soglin had offered to house some of the 51,000 children recently apprehended by authorities as they crossed the border. See Jamie Stark's report.
Lars Prip, a Vietnam veteran and Solidarity Sing Along protestor, sues Capitol Police Chief David Erwin, claiming police used excessive force and violated his civil rights while arresting him twice in 2013. Despite the arrests, Prip, 65, was never charged with any crimes.

Mary Burke easily wins the Democratic primary for governor against Brett Hulsey.
Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ wins the Democratic primary for state attorney general, defeating state Rep. Jon Richards and Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne. She'll face Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel in November. See Jenny Peek's report on Isthmus.com.
Mary Jo Walters, running on a shoestring budget, gets at least 116,000 votes in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, but it's not enough to beat state Sen. John Lehman (D-Racine).
State Sen. Glenn Grothman (West Bend) is initially called the winner in a three-way Republican primary for the state's 6th Congressional District. But wait! As precincts continued to report, Grothman's lead over state Sen. Joe Leibham (Sheboygan) shrunk to about 200 votes, casting doubt on the victory and making a recount likely.
