Wisconsin, most will agree, is home to many strange place names, and some fairly oddly named people. Madison residents who aren't originally from the state could use some help now and then, @MissPronouncer is there to assist.
Jackie Johnson is the voice behind @MissPronouncer. She defines Twitter as "tiny nuggets of random information at your fingertips. The quality and frequency of that information is largely dependent upon who you follow."
She's been using Twitter before it was cool, since 2007. Microblogging hadn't taken off yet, and Johnson was the first one in her office to use it.
Her feed is an amalgamation of Wisconsin history, common mispronunciations, happenings around the state, and general observations of everyday life. She doesn't like to get too personal, and doesn't get political "unless it's funny."
Johnson uses Twitter for professional and personal reasons, and she's never regretted a tweet. She has, however, rewritten tweets that were misspelled or used incorrect grammar. "As a newsperson," she says, "my reputation is on the line, especially when the line between personal and professional is blurred." Johnson also makes sure that everything she tweets is from a credible source.
Sometimes, however, she includes some of her own professional flubs in her tweets, like when she accidentally called Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen "Van Halen." It shows a bit of her personal side, and gives her tweets character and charm.
Why should Madisonians follow her? "They won't know unless they try it!"
