Political observers in the state are all atwitter this week over news that the domain name jimdoyle2010.com has been purchased by Doyle for Wisconsin. Some think this is proof that Gov. Jim Doyle will seek a third term in 2010. Then again, it might just be that someone was simultaneously taking advantage of a domain sale at GoDaddy and insuring that no pranksters from WMC or somewhere else squat on the domain.
That got me in the mood to do some cyber sleuthing of my own. Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz has always opted out of using his last name for stuff like this, so that eliminated a raft of possibilities like davecieslewicz2011.com, cieslewiczforthree.com or cieslewicz11.com (all available!). The mayor has used daveformadison.com in his previous two elections, a site that is currently "inactive." The registration of that domain expires in August, however, so we'll have to watch and see if it gets renewed.
Other domains point nowhere. Mayordave2011.com is available, but thirdtimesacharm.com is registered to someone in Dearborn, Mich. Remarkably, nobody has registered the domain for hitmemadisononemoretime.com either. Since the mayor doesn't include political meetings on his weekly calendar, there's no way of knowing if this pressing issue will be discussed this week. So what are the chances Mayor Dave will seek a third term?
