At the state Capitol information desk, located on the East/King Street spoke of the Rotunda, next to the postcards, there's a guest book -- you know, the kind you see at weddings and funerals. Curious, I flipped back through the pages. Up through Feb. 13, it's about what you'd expect from awestruck visitors to the seat of government: scrawls of "So cool," "God bless this land," "Awesome!" and "Thanks for the tour!"
But starting on Monday, Feb. 14, the accolades abruptly change. Page after page after page after page is filled with "Kill the bill!" (especially), "Walker resign!" "Vote NO!" "We stand by our workers," "We [heart] teachers," "Stop the attack," "THIS is what democracy looks like" and "Union!"
A random sampling of the signatories shows they come from Green Bay, Fond du Lac, River Falls, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Racine....
Maybe this really is what democracy looks like.
