On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Allied Drive Neighborhood Association and Madison ACORN held a rally and press conference in front of the City-County Building to object to the city's suggestion that half of the new housing there be owner-occupied. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz was not present, nor was any of his staff.
Mayoral spokesman George Twigg says Cieslewicz only learned about the rally from the media, shortly before it was due to begin. In an e-mail, Twigg writes, "The organizers of this event failed to actually invite the mayor, or anyone from his office, to attend."
Twigg says an invitation is a 'precursor' to the mayor being able to attend an event. He adds, sarcastically, "it's totally our fault that the mayor didn't show up at a press conference to which he wasn't invited, and that we only found out about at the very last minute."
