Gov. Scott Walker announces that the state gained 12,900 private-sector jobs in June and lost 3,400 government jobs. The private jobs are attributed largely to an increase in seasonal tourism.

Officials from the Wisconsin Education Association Council tell the Wisconsin State Journal they won't participate in discussions with Gov. Walker on developing a statewide accountability system for schools. "How can we trust the governor to be a credible partner on education issues when they just passed laws to make massive cuts to school funding and silence our voices in schools?" WEAC president Mary Bell asks.
Democrats criticize Gov. Walker's plan to close 16 Department of Motor Vehicle offices in Democratic areas and increase hours for other offices in Republican districts. The plan seeks to bring the DMV into compliance with the state's new voter ID law, which requires it to offer at least 20 hours of service each week in every county.

Driving a 2.1-mile loop around Madison, 208 motorists set a record for the largest parade of hybrid vehicles. The previous record of 140 vehicles was set in Belgium in 2010.

Mayor Paul Soglin introduces a budget amendment that would pay up to $287,000 for unused sick time to city workers at the Overture Center if they decide to go work for the arts center's new operator. The mayor says he'd like Overture to ultimately pay for the sick leave in reduced city subsidies.

Gov. Scott Walker emails Republicans, asking them to support the six state GOP senators facing recall elections in August. He calls the senators "brave" because they stood up "to the public employee union bosses and did the right thing."
Wisconsin wildlife officials announce that a cougar killed by a car in Connecticut in June had roamed the wilderness of Wisconsin in 2009 and 2010. Starting in North Dakota, the cougar is believed to have traveled roughly 2,000 miles - one of the longest ever recorded for a land animal.
An electrician working in the UW-Madison Humanities Building is accidentally electrocuted and killed.
