Inga Witscher
Wisconsin Public Television is premiering Around the Farm Table, an irresistible food series hosted by Osseo-based dairy farmer Inga Witscher. It will air Thursdays in November at 7:30 p.m., with episodes streaming online.
Witscher is a TV natural.
Here's my review of her show:
She meets with down-to-earth food producers around Wisconsin -- the ones who make the cheese, mill the flour and catch the fish through holes in the ice. Then she takes these indigenous products back home and shows us how to use them in luscious farm-fresh concoctions.
Around the Farm Table is skillfully filmed and edited. But it also manages to feel casual, as if we just happened to catch Witscher whipping up butter and rye bread on a normal Osseo day. She has an easy rapport with her rural interviewees, and the occasional hokey humor just makes the show seem more authentic.
More coverage of Witscher and the program was published by 77 Square, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Eau Claire Leader-Telegram. Witscher herself attended a special premiere screening at Redamte coffee shop on Wednesday night.
Best of all, the series provides recipes for farm-inspired dishes, including Pork Picnic Pie and Swiss Chard Tart, and also offers a guide to farms featured on the air. Ongoing updates will be provided via the series' Facebook page.
A rural Wisconsin star is born.
