Sony Online Entertainment (PlayStation 3)
Rated Teen
I loved both of the Untold Legends games for the PlayStation Portable. The repetitive action and irrelevant storyline - about heroes saving a kingdom - made it perfect for a game system you generally play while waiting for something else to happen. But Sony Online Entertainment has taken this successful PSP franchise and dressed it up as a PlayStation 3 role-playing game. That just doesn't work with a next-gen console, where we expect a deeper, richer experience, with details and graphics that'll blow us away.
If Sony Online Entertainment really wanted to make a solid console title, it should have taken a cue from any number of role-playing games that have selected the best from their own series and added the character depth from genre-leaders such as Neverwinter Nights. Instead, we're stuck with what is essentially a pretentious Gauntlet clone. Give this one a pass and wait for Oblivion, which should be out sometime in April.
