On the eve of New Year's Eve, the Appleton-based country-soul band The Wandering Sons played a show at Café Montmartre. Touring throughout the upper Midwest regularly through this winter, the group is getting ready to release their forthcoming album, to be titled Little Bird.
A live concert video of their latest appearance in town follows below.
The Wandering Sons' previous show in Madison was likewise at Café Montmartre, where they appeared with Gabriel Reed and Ellestel on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Madison music journalist Kiki Schueler reviewed this show, writing:
With a clarinet featured prominently on most songs, the Wandering Sons fall on the jazzier side of Americana, and it grows on you with repeated listens. Lead singer Cory Chisel has a very impressive voice and magnetic stage presence, enhanced by the ever-present hat. Not many people could pull off the look as well as he does, old-fashioned but in a cool way.
There are many more online videos featuring The Wandering Sons, including them performing "Hang Your Head Down" at the Double Door in Chicago, and another of the group playing "If You Come Home" at Tom's Garage in Appleton.
More music by The Wandering Sons is available on their MySpace page. Currently touring northern Illinois, the group will be returning to Madison on Groundhog's Day, playing a dual CD release party with The Blueheels at Café Montmarte on Friday, Feb. 2.
