Having spent five years licking his wounds, Mike Myers has now put The Cat in the Hat behind him and is back with The Love Guru. I'm sorry to say, though, that he's totally miscalculated again. We weren't looking for a Bollywood-style comedy in which Myers is a guru-to-the-stars whose main goal in life is to package his wisdom in such a way as to become bigger than Deepak Chopra. There are some funny ideas in play, in addition to a steaming pile of jokes involving urination, defecation, masturbation and meditation. But it's hard to get a bead on the saffron-robed Guru Pitka, who's either a shaman or a sham, perhaps both. And the movie itself never gets any traction; at the end, it's still spinning its prayer wheels.
