Ashes of Time Redux: Various characters (a near-blind swordman, an assassin) wander into and out of a blighted desert flophouse overseen by a love-gutted ex-warrior (Leslie Cheung) in this director's cut of the original, released stateside in 1996. What must surely be the greatest assemblage of Hong Kong cinematic talent ever combined worked on this dreamlike, disjointed, gorgeous film.

I've Loved You So Long: French writer-director Philippe Claudel's tight-lipped melodrama stars Kristen Scott Thomas as a woman who's just been released after spending 15 years in prison for a crime she may never be able to forgive herself for committing. The movie's heart-breaking, of course, but it's also a little dry, Thomas doling out the emotion via IV drip.
