City of Men: The followup to City of God explores the vicious circle of poverty and thug life in Rio de Janeiro's slums. The film sometimes bogs down in details, but it's eye-opening in its depiction of the violence that permeates the characters' lives.

Vantage Point: In a clichéd retread of Rashomon, a single event - the assassination of the U.S. president at a Middle East peace summit - is seen from multiple points of view (Dennis Quaid's, Forest Whitaker's, Sigourney Weaver's).
