UW-Madison has seen a blossoming of collegiate a cappella over the last decade, as is the case at schools around the nation, with multiple student-run groups organizing and swiftly gaining a following on campus. Co-ed, all-male, and all-female, these groups generally feature one to two dozen members, each performing a mix of old-school standards and contemporary pop hits at public concerts, private parties, and charity shows, along with a smattering of surprise serenades for unsuspecting victims.
One of the newer troupes on campus is Fundamentally Sound held their big fall concert before an energetic crowd at the Wisconsin Union Theater on Friday, November 30. A half-dozen live concert videos from the show follow, starting with their rendition of "Shout!" by The Isley Brothers. Other songs performed by Fundamentally Sound at their fall concert included "Superstar" by Luther Vandross (here), "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond (here), "Let Love In" by the Goo Goo Dolls (here), "Will You Be There?" by Michael Jackson (here), and "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds (here). "Fundamentally Sound show what they went through to learn how to Crank Dat Sound, and along the way they see what the dark age of Vince's life was really like," writes the videographer about the longest clip (here) capturing an extended skit and their performance of "Boston" by Augustana. This show was followed a week later by another in the Union Theatre featuring Isthmus YouTube group or send a message.
