Definitely, Maybe: A man (Ryan Reynolds) agrees to tell his daughter how he and her mother met, throwing in all his other relationships as well. The cast is charming and the story likable, despite some generic romantic-comedy frippery.

Persepolis: Iranian-born Marjane Satrapi takes us through a turbulent period in Iran's history (the fall of the shah, the rise of the mullahs, the war with Iraq) in this largely autobiographical animated feature, an adaptation of her celebrated graphic novels. The movie follows Satrapi's coming of age while also showing us the black veil that descended over Iran, and the result is both endearing and searing.
