Fracture: Anthony Hopkins is a delight to watch as a man who murdered his wife, and so is Ryan Gosling as the D.A. who tries to convict him. This legal thriller pits the two brilliant actors against one another in a sustained battle of wills that has enough sizzle to keep us rapt even when the storyline sags.

Vacancy: In this well-executed exercise in backroads paranoia, a married couple (Luke Wilson, Kate Beckinsale) fear they'll be victims of a snuff film at an isolated motel. The film works best when it slows down to catch its breath.
