Get Smart: This movie version of the late-'60s spy-versus-spy TV series has Steve Carell taking over for Don Adams and Anne Hathaway filling in for Barbara Feldon, and it definitely has its moments. But all sorts of action sequences have been added, despite the fact that Maxwell Smart is always funnier trying to talk his way through something than trying to crash his way through something.
When Did You Last See Your Father?: Colin Firth, as handsomely dour as ever, stars in this rather somber adaptation of Blake Morrison's memoir about having grown up with a man who never quite got around to growing up himself. As the ultimate life-of-the-party type, Jim Broadbent is perhaps too jovial, not Jekyll/Hyde enough, but the movie nevertheless will speak to anyone who's ever had a dad.
