Hot Fuzz: In a peaceful English village, a London super-cop (Simon Pegg) adjusts to life in the slow lane. The movie's in fine form as long as it blasts away at those cozy stereotypes about the English countryside, but the filmmakers finally wear you down with all the car chases and gunfights.
300: Based on Frank Miller's blood-spurting graphic novel about the Spartan warriors who fought to the death against overwhelming odds in the Battle of Thermopylae, this film is a bit of a slog. But the battle sequences have a comic-book grandeur, and everything's so carefully composed that it starts to seem more like an art film.
