Local rockers E*I*E*I*O are back in Madison after a whirlwind cross-country tour opening for the Bangles. "The Bangles and their crew were wonderful to us," singer Steve Summers tells music writer Phil Davis. "The attitude everywhere was always, ‘Can we help you? Is everything okay?'" Opening 18 shows for the Bangles while driving through 28 states in 28 days "was pretty grueling," Summers allows, but had its rewards. "One day we did a show in Knoxville and were shot by a Rolling Stone photographer. The next day a guy from Epic Records in Nashville came down and signed us to do a record, and the day after that I was being interviewed by David Fricke from Rolling Stone on the phone. When we got to L.A. we did a bunch of radio interviews and got filmed for I.R.S.'s ‘The Cutting Edge.'" Now based in Chicago, E*I*E*I*O continue to perform and record with Summers on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Mike Hoffman and Rob Harding on electric guitars, bassist Mike Gorman and drummer Scott Gorsuch.
