Madison is celebrated for many things, but a sophisticated fashion sense isn't usually one of them. TDP blogger David Blaska, back when he was state editor of The Capital Times, once joked that Madison is a place where people put on a clean pair of jeans for dress occasions.
However, the proliferation of upscale boutiques, trendy hair salons and a general emphasis on healthy living, has steadily helped residents look as good as the city they live in. Though a smattering of boutiques have held fashion events in recent years, this week marks the first attempt at an all-encompassing look at Madison's fledgling fashion industry. Playing off of the popularity of shows like Project Runway and America's Next Top Model, event producer Kristi Moe hopes to boost Madison's fashion profile.
