Written by Caldecott Honor Winner Margaret Chodos-Irvine, Best Best Friends is an appealingly illustrated story following the day of two preschoolers, Mary and Clare. They start out the day as best best friends, but when Mary begins to get special treatment because of her birthday, Clare can't stand it. She lets Mary know that if it were her birthday, she would do things differently. This discussion explodes into a shouting match ending in "You are not my friend!" They go their separate ways, but there's more to be learned about friendship before the tale's end. Preschool and early elementary-age children will enjoy the realistic and dramatic ups and downs of this friendship.
