Knitting continues to be a hot pastime. Even young people are picking up their "stix" and getting knitty. Here's a book that will appeal particularly to young knitters. No granny square afghans or boring dishcloths here! Projects run the gamut from hoodies to iPod covers. The book has the required beginner scarf instructions, but there's also a pattern for "Easy-Care Cacti" to give some DIY flair to your space. Although there's some silly stuff, there's enough appealing material to inspire both girls and boys. The projects are broken into chapters by style, including "Urban Playground," "Punk Garage Rocks" and "Festival Folk."
The introductory chapters on materials, tools and techniques are excellent, with full-color photographs illustrating the concepts. Tips and hints are sprinkled throughout the book for added help. For a young knitter looking for something out of the ordinary, Funky Knits could really fit the bill.
