Here we are in one of those strange holiday weeks, when our time references become completely altered and the rhythm is gone from our routine. Thus I write before the fact for you to read as if it were after the fact. In which case I hope you have a happy Turkey Day.
Then again, many of you will be reading after the fact, in which case I hope you had a gratifying Thanksgiving. I know for many of you the combination of turkey plus football minus work perforce equals happiness. For others, and you know who you are, this and other holidays amount to a lot of work, preparing said turkey, and the trimmings, and managing a whole lot of other hassles that come with the occasion of convening family. We carefree revelers realize and appreciate this.
In planning our publishing schedule, we at Isthmus anticipated the time constraints of a holiday week and prepared a cover feature that we could achieve well beforehand. That's why we have the results of our second annual photo contest for your inspection this week.
Making your inspection especially enjoyable is this year's theme, "What's So Funny?" We were a little apprehensive taking this tack since, as we all know, comedy is hard. But the shutterbugs came through, as you will see when you hit the photo contest pages. And for you inveterate voyeurs, there are more funny photos accessible through TheDailyPage.com.
Since I will not be communicating with you before our Dec. 3 edition, let me remind you now of Band to Band Combat at the Majestic Theatre on Thursday, Dec. 2, 9 p.m. Four bands - the Lucas Cates Band, themedia., Sleeping in the Stereo and Crane Your Swan Neck - for five bucks. It's cheaper than iTunes, and it's real musicians, live!
