We have quite a full package for you this week. In addition to the weekly fare, there appears in your hefty bundle the League of Women Voters' spring general election edition of Candidates' Answers and Isthmus' annual magazine on Madison's gustatory delights, Dining.
But before I describe what you can find in these estimable supplements, congratulations are in order, belatedly, to Isthmus news editor Bill Lueders, who, for the second year in a row, was recognized by the Humane Society of the United States for a number of articles he did in 2010 on issues related to animal research at the University of Wisconsin. He was flown to Los Angeles for the celebrity-studded fete at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel on March 19. News of the award was embargoed until the event, so we announce it here for the first time.
The program, known as the Genesis Awards, comprised 18 categories of mostly national media and entertainment companies. In Lueders' category, Newspaper Series, Lueders beat out The Los Angeles Times, nominated for articles on rhino poaching. As should be obvious, he makes us proud.
Back on the home front, this edition of Candidates' Answers, targeted for the April 5 election, features information on all the candidates, at least those who replied to the League's questionnaire, including those for school board in Madison and surrounding communities. It also contains the three referenda on the ballot.
As for Dining, it gives you information on voting with your tummy. Written by the pantheon of Isthmus food contributors, it describes a variety of Madison eating attractions and the many ways we celebrate food in this city, alone or with others. It hast maps and listings - we know you like those.
And, back to current events, hello to former Isthmus editor Marc Eisen, who pens our pre-election cover story on perhaps the most interesting race of the season, Hizzoner versus Mayor Dave. No soup for you until you vote.
