What better place to see Goodbye, Dragon Inn than at the Orpheum Theatre, which was almost left for dead but still comes alive at night, when ghosts get in for free? Featuring lots of walking and sitting around, Tsai Ming-liang's minimalist art film, which is set in a Taipei movie palace on the night before it closes forever, will try the patience of the most hardened cinephile, so deliberately does it unfold. But the gay-cruising scenes are quietly amusing. And the movie's theme, that these dark rooms are as memorable as the images up on the screen, may well break your heart.
