I'm born and raised Upper Michigan/Northern Wisconsin and went to college in Green Bay, I spent a summer in Hurley and almost went to college in Duluth/Superior. I worked a summer in Door County at the Landmark and after college I lived in Iron Mountain but spent a lot of time in Spread Eagle, Peshtigo, Marinette, Oconto and Rhinelander. I'm quite familiar with upstate Wisconsin and still to this day have not heard anyone outside of Madison utter the term "sconnie". Where are these north, west, east and south Wisconsin communities that speak "sconnie"?

I got a text from Jesus last night! Says:

So now I don't know if this is Jesus spam or if I now can call him up rather than that old slow roundabout way of praying and such.
What I really want to know now is what is 'b Ravin' and why would I want to receive it.

Stroll is absolutely right. You have to be prepared for every situation at all times regardless of how likely. This is why I wear my tin foil hat when I'm in the shower every day and keep a wooden stake, garlic, and holy water in my fanny pack at all times.

I was at the DMV in early 2008 when a woman tapped me on the shoulder, called me by another name (i.e. Nancy?). When I said, sorry you must be mistaken, she explained that I was a dead-ringer for her long-lost cousin she hadn't seen in 15 years.
The guy who delivers water to our office asked me once if I went to the UW in the 90s and if I hung out at a particular bar where he bartended. No on both counts - I was in MN at that time.
I could go on - apparently I'm not that unique!

It's disconcerting how quickly everyone seems to rush to judgement on Chad. On what basis should the title of a respectable article doing an intro on a candidate say "Chad Lee is better looking than you and running for Congress"? It catches the eye, if that's what the author simply intended to do, but it seems the title is an overt statement implying that Chad offers a nice smile and is qualified (satirically) upon that basis. Why don't we wait to hear what the candidate has to say about his plans for the future and consider if they would benefit Madison and the surrounding counties. He doesn't even have a completed website and already he's portrayed in a discoloring fashion. Disappointing.

I haven't done the full online shopping experience, but I do get groceries delivered from Cap Center after shopping there in person on my way home. That works really well.
In my experience it's a little clunky to get used to an online interface and try to find your exact favorite brand/size/flavor before your time winds down. In addition, I'm more of an as-needed kind of shopper; I'm more likely to say, "Oh, right, I have to get toilet paper NOW" than to plan ahead and do a Thursday run online, so that's not as convenient when there's lag time in between.
That said, I do have friends who swear by Peapod. If I knew I could get the groceries that night (within, say, three or four hours -- they may do thisalready for all I know, but given the amount of items they sell I wouldn't hold my breath), I might be more likely to do it.
Let's hope the south side can hold a hot dog joint better than State Street.

Yippie! A new eatery, on the south side, S. Park & Lakeside S.E. corner (across the street, from the old Bancroft Dairy ) I didn't know they'd opened, or I'd have skipped the wings I had for dinner. Had a cone just to be friendly and check out their menu. The sign says they do serve Vienna Dogs (Coney and Chicago style), slushies, and all kinds of things to put a smile on my face. It is a local and female owned place. This is exciting news for the south side!
Well, I'm excited because it's just down the street from me and I'm having a wonderful time, summer urban exploring!
If Target knew what was good for 'em...

The place Target should have gone - and almost did, according to rumors - was the University Square development. While Hilldale is better than driving to the edge of town - which I will avoid at all costs - and I'm at Hilldale already on a semi-regular basis, U Sq would have been walking distance to all those desirable student shoppers.
Despite what some may believe, many students do not have access to a car. If they could walk to Target, every purchase for the apartment or dorm would be made there.
If there's one thing Target knows, it's marketing to 18-25 year olds.
They are also one of the few big box retailers that knows how to build in a true urban environment. Hilldale is only semi-urban, but I have hopes that they will be able to build something that at least uses the hillside to put in a multi-level store. At least partially bury the parking.
Why don't you just go polish your halo?

This is what happens when
1.) You outsource all the manufacturing and telecommunication jobs from a country where there are millions of unemployed disenfranchised people (all for a tax break).
2.) You become complacent and cowardly.
3.) You continue to play the game of politics even when your own party is acting against your interests simply bec you subscribe to the same religion and or/views.
4.) You continue to bury yourself in debt in an economy built on debt (ie taking your money).
5.) You let all of the above happen.
Here's an idea. STOP SPENDING MONEY. Money talks, bullshit walks.
I'm not spending an extra dime on anything for any reason. I only care about the bare necessities now.
