Madison's Sunspot are blazing a new music industry trail. In June, the rock trio began releasing singles as soon as they're done instead of waiting to put an album together. The singles are available free for download at sunspotmusic.com. Right below the download button, Sunspot appeals for an online donation via credit card "if you like what you hear." The group's next single is due out in early August.
Few Madison hip-hop artists master the art of the mix tape like DJ Fusion. Last May, Fusion turned his attention to mixing three dozen songs by local artists. The result is Madison: The Mix Tape, a CD featuring the work of Fall Guys, Felicia Alima, Kalo, Ox and Lucha Libre, among others. The CD-release party is set for July 31 at Con Safos in McFarland.
The Madison Music Collective has reunited. First formed in 1985, MMC promotes the work of local jazz and improvisational performers. For years, MMC sponsored gigs at O'Cayz Corral. This summer, MMC is presenting "The Art of the Duo," a three-concert series that concludes Aug. 23 at the Capitol Lakes Grand Hall, 333 W. Main St. MMC meetings are held the second Sunday of each month, 5 p.m., at the same site. More information is available at mmcmusic.org.
