Tex Tubb's Taco Palace
Today's image is titled Tex Tubb's Taco Palace and was photographed by D. Shawn Kennedy.
"Mmmmmmmmm...." writes the photographer in a caption accompanying the photo of what will hopefully be a long-term neon icon on the east side of Madison. Yummy, indeed. A little more than a year has passed since Food Fight opened Tex Tubb's Taco Palace on Atwood Avenue, complete with neon sign, kitschy Austin-fried South Congress interior dÃcor and a black-and-white photobooth.
The restaurant generally gets high marks from the online peanut gallery, as long as one doesn't mind a bit of a wait and prices higher than your typical food cart. One reviewer used terms like "good" and "awesome" to describe the tacos a couple of weeks after Tex Tubb's opened in early 2006, while a more recent diner discusses being "swayed by the environment."
And then there's this photo of 10 salmon tacos. "It hurt for a while," notes the taco fan with the bear-sized appetite. "It was too much. I don't recommend it and I don't think I will ever plan to attempt to break my record. But I did it. Wow." More details about location and hours are available here.
There is a larger version of the photo in the gallery at right.
