Today's image is titled 1st (well actually second) day of spring and was photographed by Steve Kriegler.
With spring 2007 now over a week old, Madison's lakes are beginning to open up. While this photo shows open water on Lake Mendota at James Madison Park downtown, both lakes Monona and Wingra are now largely free of ice. The official opening dates for all three lakes will be recorded by the Wisconsin State Climatology Office.
