Beth McConnell
squash swatch
Today's image is titled squash swatch and was photographed by Beth McConnell.
This photo shows a pile of winter squash sitting at the ready. "I never know what to do with these kinds of gourds and lumpy bumpy mini-squash, even though I either grow or purchase a few every year," writes McConnell in the caption. Similar piles of the Cucurbita fruit can be found at farmers' markets throughout Madison and Dane County, as well as at pumpkin patches throughout the region. Pick-your-own places that carry squashes in addition to the typical large, smooth and orange variety include Anderson's Pleasant Patch Pumpkins in McFarland, Foster's Fall Harvest in Marshall, Green's Orchard in Stoughton, Willow Glen Farm in Belleville.
