Obviously all of you are proud to be from Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers, the House on the Rock and Schiltz Brewing Company mold your identity as a Badger.
But what about America? Why should we be grateful to her? Here are some things I came up with.
(a) Because America gave us Wisconsin.
(b) Because in America, at least I know I'm free.
(c) Because our electorate does not discriminate against leaders based on mental capacity or sanity.
(d) Our history is so rich that even those who distort it to comical proportions understand that it is special.
(e) It gave us baseball.
(f) It gave us light beer, which does not taste as good as real beer, but made beer-drinking more popular, which made college more fun.
(g) Because even though the FCC enforces puritan standards of decency on television and radio, the government otherwise has very little authority to restrict speech.
(h) Because America is home to a vibrant political blogosphere.
