I've never eaten my words in so short a span of time. This is what I get for taking Labor Day off.
Madison Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz endorsed State Assembly candidate Brett Hulsey today in his bid for the Democratic nomination in the 77th Assembly District.
"I know all the candidates in the Democratic primary and I like and respect each of them. But I have known Brett Hulsey the longest. Over two decades, Brett and I have worked together on countless issues in the area of environmental protection and on issues affecting the City of Madison.
"In a field of strong candidates, Brett stands out. More than ever we need an effective advocate for Madison. The state faces yet another deficit and no one can predict who will control the legislature. Brett has experience fighting against long odds and coming out on top.
"While I would be happy to work with anyone who emerges from the Democratic field, I believe Brett Hulsey is the best choice for Madison at an especially challenging time.
Earlier this morning, in response to former Mayor Paul Soglin's endorsement of Dianne Hesselbein, I commented that the sitting mayor would not endorse, for fear of offending the other candidate, whom he will likely have to work with on some level, either in city-county relations or city-state relations.
Wow.
