The Dems are crowing about Fitch Ratings downgrading Milwaukee County's bond outlook to "negative."
"In the shameful news of Milwaukee County's downgraded bond rating, we have seen the Ghost of Christmas Future and what Scott Walker has in store for the rest of Wisconsin," Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Monday. "His reckless mismanagement has taken Milwaukee County to the brink of bankruptcy. We must not let him and his Republican storm front do the same to Wisconsin."
According to the BizTimes, bankruptcy is a very real possibility for Milwaukee County in the near future.
By no means is the county's fiscal situation entirely the fault of Scott Walker. In his defense, debt wouldn't be such a big problem if the county board had gone along with his drastic spending cut proposals. But politically, he must bear some of the blame. If you can't get the board to go along with anti-tax zealotry, then you have to compromise for the fiscal stability of the county. He did not.
In fact, when forced for ways to raise revenue, he only went after those that could be announced without the word "tax." Increased parking fees, for instance. And it appears . More significantly, the percentage the poor are contributing is on the rise.
