So, what do you think of American democracy?
I remain unconvinced that President Obama and Rep. Bart Stupak negotiated anything but political cover for anti-abortion Democrats in tough re-election battles.
Look at the executive order Obama promised to sign. It offers nothing new. All it does is promise to enforce existing law, and that the president directs federal agencies to set up guidelines to determine whether health care exchanges are complying with federal law.
It's complete bullshit.
But then again, the abortion debate has been complete bullshit from the moment Stupak proposed his amendment last June. The "law of the land" already prevented the federal government from funding abortion. The Democrats weren't going to dare change that, although I predict Dave Blaska will soon allege that in a coming post. What Stupak was doing last night was mounting a publicity campaign for anti-abortion Democrats as well as giving certain Democrats in conservative districts political cover.
