After enjoying a couple pitchers at the Silver Dollar Tavern, which is a money bar (pun intended), some friends and I were heading home when we noticed some people rummaging through brown garbage cans and flipping through books.
"What the hell," we enquired. They had no explanation, but one fine gentleman told us that it happened every week. He used to work in the book business, he said, and these books had no use to local bookstores or libraries. So it was a free-for-all.
It was crazy. Along with a couple computer manuals from the mid-80's I noticed a bunch of books on U.S. states, made up of assorted facts, stereotypes and oil paintings (the kind you find at the Plaza). I took home 20. Unfortunately I couldn't find Wisconsin. Had I found it I definitely would have made the the cover the banner for The Sconz.
