They stayed for about 15-20 minutes, after which they left, chanting "We'll be back, we'll be back!"
Then, during Biddy Martin's opening address to an audience of hundreds, two dozen activists from the Student Labor Action Coalition stormed in, disrupting the speech with their own chants. Eventually they were escorted out by security, and had to make do posting signs on the glass that surrounded the room and stomping on the wooden boardwalk outside.
They were soon accompanied by anti-abortion activists protesting embryonic stem cell research. "You were once an embryo," read one sign.
The SLAC activists made it inside once again as Gov. Doyle was making his speech. "We'll just wait till it quiets down a little," said the man who is being accused of giving in to union demands too easily by Republicans. Twas an ironic scene indeed.
