Dane County Board Sup. Brett Hulsey welcomed Sup. Dianne Hesselbein to the race for the 77th district Assembly seat. "Having more people in the race makes for better democracy," says Hulsey, who is expected to be Hesselbein's chief opponent in what has already an eight-way race for the Democratic nomination. He also noted that he personally liked Hesselbein and worked to get her elected two years ago.
"Like Spencer Black, I have dedicated much of my life to making Madison, Middleton and Dane County a better place for our families," Hulsey said when I asked why he was the best man for the job.
In contrast to the national trend, candidates for the 77th district will try to paint themselves as continuing the legacy of the incumbent. You can bet that both Hulsey and Hesselbein will try to wrangle and endorsement out of Black, even though for the time being the veteran lawmaker is staying out of the race.
