At least two contractors on the high-speed rail project between Madison and Milwaukee have been told by Gov. Jim Doyle's administration to stop work on the project, executives said Thursday.
"They just said, 'We're going to stop it for now and we'll see how it goes,'" said Abdulhamid Ali, president of DAAR Engineering.
Odd that this would happen within days of the contract signing with the feds. But maybe this is being overblown. It may be simply a temporary halt, or maybe it is even a political ploy. Give Scott Walker what he wants and force him to choose between investing in the state or giving the money to Iowa or Michigan, whose Republican governors are interested in trains.
