Congratulations to Madison illustrator David McLimans, whose Gone Wild: An Endangered Animal Alphabet has won a 2007 Caldecott Honor.
The Honor is presented each year to distinguished children's picture books by Association for Library Service to Children. The ALSC describes McLimans' book as "a black-and-white iconic alphabet that is sophisticated enough to intrigue and captivate readers of any age. A contemporary interpretation of an illuminated alphabet melds animals and letters into 26 unique and elegant graphic images."
That's nice, but I prefer to think of it as one badass ABC book. How cool would it be to get letters like these monogrammed on your dress shirts?
McLimans' website (www.davidmclimans.com) can easily kill a half hour, particularly in his amazing sketchbook section which includes photos of pages in what appears to be McLiman's actual moleskine.
