I'm not usually a gal for one-stop shopping. Wal-Marts, Costcos and mega-malls give me the creeps (I'd rather not buy tires and tank tops in the same place, thank you very much), and even reading the duty-free catalogs on airplanes can send me into conniptions.
Imagine my surprise, then, when on a recent trip to the Designer Shoe Warehouse - better known as DSW - in Greenway Station, I not only bought shoes but enjoyed myself in the process. Of course, it's hard to not enjoy oneself when one is finding Minnetonka moccasins for $40 and flat golden sandals for 22 bucks. Not to mention the gladiator sandals for $50 and BCBGirls wedges for $20. The list of good deals goes on and on.
For a shoe addict, going to DSW is like putting an entire keg in front of an alcoholic, so ladies in particular should enter at their own risk (or at least with a price cap in mind). I overheard a group of three well-heeled Middletonian women chatting in the aisle, and one of them confided to another, "I'm not going to buy anything today. I pretty much own all the shoes in here already." By the looks of her and her feet, I don't think she was exaggerating.
So if you're champing at the bit for summer sandals that aren't overpriced, flimsy, or just behind the fashion curve, head to Greenway Station for the newest (and cheapest) styles of the season. Don't blame me if you walk out with more than you bargained for.
