Do you daydream about a weekend getaway in Door County, but don't have the time? If you have a minute, visit downtown's Patricia Shoppe for the next-best thing.
A franchise of a store started six years ago by Erin Anschutz Bosman in Door County's Egg Harbor, Patricia Shoppe is a boutique that's simply a breath of fresh air. A girly-girl's paradise, the store is a blend of vintage-inspired and modern pieces and is filled with sparkling jewels, on-trend handbags and clutches, frilly lace dresses and distinctive shoes. And get this - it's all reasonably priced, hence the store's slogan: "Affordable luxuries for American beauties."
The store has a rich history. The first Patricia Shoppe opened in Chicago in 1937 and was owned by Bosman's grandmother, Patricia. The store back then wasn't too different from how it is now, specializing in jewelry and accessories. Bosman wanted to follow in her grandmother's fashionable footsteps, so she opened her own Patricia Shoppe.
The Madison location's owner, Jessica O'Conner, is a Door County native with a background in fashion retailing. O'Conner describes her store as having a "modern edge with a classic elegance" that fills a niche in Madison. "I was surprised that a lot of the lines carried here have never been in the area," she says.
So if you have some free time, step into Patricia Shoppe's breezy, uplifting surroundings and treat yourself to a few affordable luxuries. You might even feel like you've just come back from a refreshing little weekend away.
