Isthmus will host this year's Paddle & Portage canoe race. The 33rd annual event will be held on Saturday, July 21, with hundreds of participants from around the country.
The race will begin at James Madison Park with a 1.5-mile paddle on Lake Mendota, followed by a one-mile portage over the isthmus past the Capitol and the Dane County Farmers' Market, before heading to the final 1.5-mile paddle across Lake Monona and the finish line at Olin-Turville Park. Racers and spectators are invited to enjoy music, food and an awards ceremony following the race.
Participants always represent a wide range, from national competitive racers to amateur canoeists to parent-and-child teams.
