This weekend marks the sixteenth annual Cronometro Bike Swap , the midwinter bicycling extravaganza that features the buying, selling, and swapping of new and used bikes, components, tools, accessories and clothing. Photojournalist and UW instructor Michael Kienitz created a 90-second spot promoting the swap, which draws large crowds of bicycling enthusiasts year after year.
This Cronometro commercial follows below.
The bike swap is sponsored by the near east side bicycling shop Cronometro and Brazen Dropouts , a bike club consisting of "a diverse group of racers that take racing seriously but not too seriously." The swap will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center.
Why go? The swap's FAQ answers that question:
It's the middle of winter, it's cold and you miss being outside on your bike. Come inside and spend some time at what is arguably the largest bike swap in the Midwest. Perhaps you are looking for a rare, vintage part that will complete your bike restoration. You want to see some of the newest bicycling gear. Maybe you just want to be surrounded by people who share your passion for all things cycling. Answers for eleven other questions about the big day can also be found in the FAQ More details about Cronometro can also be found in The Crono Daily , a blog detailing "the latest buzz and photos from the shop."
