From his first self-titled recording containing only two original songs to last year's Tempest, a masterpiece released at age 71, The Complete Album Collection Vol. 1 brings together Bob Dylan's 35 studio albums, six live records and a two-disc compilation of tracks from several greatest-hits collections and the box set Biograph.
Fourteen of the albums were remastered just for this project, and every single one sounds great. All the CDs are housed in record-sleeve replicas. The set also comes with a hardcover book filled with extensive liner notes.
Just like Chuck Berry in the 1950s, Dylan rewrote the rulebook, producing some of the most revered songs of his time. Granted, he also produced some that weren't so hot, but that's the beauty of this box: It allows you to judge the complete achievement. You can revisit the classics of the '60s and '70s, find diamonds in the rough amid Dylan's mid-'80s clunkers, or reacquaint yourself with his more recent renaissance.
In other words, this is a great addition to the collections of Dylan diehards and casual fans alike.
