After a slight misfire (Colorblind) and an album that hinted at a new sound (We Walk This Road), pedal-steel virtuoso Robert Randolph has returned to top form with a body-rocking, soul-shaking good time of a record.
Randolph dazzles throughout, channeling Yes on the crunchy rocker "All American." The dance-friendly track "Amped Up" is wonderfully raucous, while "Born Again" and "Get Ready" add a gospel vibe to a rock 'n' roll base. But "Brand New Wayo," a funky jam featuring Carlos Santana, is the best example of the record's fun, freewheeling nature. Each band member gets a solo, and Randolph introduces their contributions like a seasoned emcee.
