Many Madison acts hit the road in June and July, taking their latest songs to fans in other states. But a new mini-fest organized by the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium will make sure local music fans get a hearty helping of live jazz before summer begins.
The event, called Strollin' Schenk's Corners, brings 10 local acts to the near-east-side neighborhood on May 23. Tunes begin at Chocolaterian at 5 p.m., with sets by two duos known for their moving vocals: Michelle DuVall & Doug Brown and Lynette Margulies & Jane Reynolds. Combos from East and West high schools entertain on an outdoor stage from Monona State Bank starting at 5:30 p.m. Lesser Lakes Trio jam at Thorps salon at 7:30 p.m., followed by Brennan Connors & Stray Passage. One Barrel Brewing hosts sets by vocalist Susan Hofer and the Charlie Painter Trio beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The finale takes place at Alchemy, where Tony Castañeda's Latin Jazz Band gig at 10:45 p.m. and El Clan Destino perform with guests Tony Barba and Paddy Cassidy around midnight.
