According to their band bio, Aniv de la Rev first got together back in 2003 to "explore the possibilities of punk mixed with cumbia and new wave." Judging from the jumping beat and the antic bi-lingual vocals that animate the careening punk/cumbia experiment "El Dishwashero," they've hit on a winning hybrid.
Selected for inclusion on the Madison Made Music Project compilation album to be released in September, this isn't a tune you take in sitting down.
"El Dishwashero" demands the movement of every limb and a brace of hearty belly laughs from all its auditors; can't wait for the Aniv De La Rev album. I'm sure it'll have pretty much every dancing fool with a taste for the weird and wonderful down on all fours and howling with delight.
A MP3 of the track is available in the related downloads at right. More music by the band can be found at their MySpace page. To catch them live, Aniv de la Rev's next shot in Madison is on Saturday, September 29, when they will be playing with El Donk and The Motor Primitives at the Crystal Corner.
