The Nervous System -- an all-star group headed up by David "Vid" Libert and former SuperEights John Nichols and Nathan Meltz -- mainline the adolescent angst and primitive energy of Sixties garage-rock and psychedelia on their debut album Manic Compression.
One of the standout cuts is "Puerto Escondido," a mostly instrumental south-of-the-border rocker that gets its heat from some mournful mariachi trumpet, perfectly placed tambourine jangles and a clipped chorus that uses a simple "Hey-hey, hey-hey" to convey all the power and glory of a youthful road trip to a very Sixties paradise of sun and beer and mescaline.
The Nervous System is headlining their CD release party -- which also features Sleeping in the Aviary and The Grizzlies -- at the King Club on Friday, Mar. 30. As noted in the band's announcement, "new guitarist Sean Ramsden will be making his stage debut, joining the Nervous System this night as their newest member."
